Updates two days in a row? Yes!
So Trujillo was a gorgeous but kinda pointless city; I only went there because I met this French dude in Bogota and met up with again in Ecuador, and he was like, you have to see the Chan Chan ruins.
And I’m like, uh, I guess? But fuck it, right, why not?
So I hopped on a ridiculously complicated bus trip (which turned out fine) from Cuenca to Chiclayo I think down to Trujillo.
So yeah, Trujillo was neat, but Chan Chan was amazing, and honestly I kinda think it was cooler than Machu Picchu, and yes I know I sound so pretentious.
But I had no idea at all what to expect, and almost didn’t go, since again: sick as all hell, and was just kind of trying to recover for a few days. But I did — which entailed hopping on a bus out of town which had no seats left, so I just squatted by the driver holding onto something, and then getting dropped off alone in a really… reassuring kind of place.
BUT it was so cool! This was June or July, so winter; it wasn’t so empty that it was scary, but it pretty empty: I wandered for an hour or two, and only ran into other people a handful of times — and I think it was only a tenth of the entire complex that was even open to the public.
And there was so much cool stuff like hey here is the plaza where court was held 1,500 years ago where you are standing, no big deal. And the Andes in the background, which I miss so much it’s like a raw wound. So enjoy the photodump. And I want a tattoo of the fish.
I apologize for the shitty photo formatting — but like seriously, it’s so cool.
